Now That's A Tasty Burger

Just ran across this on C Trent's Blog -10 Essential Steps To The Perfect Cheeseburger (btw did you know Amazon had blogs?)

The 10 Essential Steps to the Perfect Cheeseburger

1. Use 6 oz. of meat per patty, no more and no less. Don't guess; weigh it.

2. Shape it with your hands into patties. Ignore the common advice about not "overworking" the meat.

3. Liberally salt (use Kosher salt) and pepper both sides. Salt is the glory of red meat; don't stint.

4. Make a deep thumbprint in the middle of each patty (it evens out the burger when it cooks, don't ask why).

5. Refrigerate the patties until you're ready to grill. You can salt and pepper well ahead if you'd like.

6. Make a HOT charcoal fire.

7. Liberally oil both your grill and the meat before you start.

8. For medium-rare, grill the meat EXACTLY 3 minutes on one side (grill lid closed) and 2 minutes on the other.

9. Add the cheese, cover each patty with a burger cover, and cook for 1 minute more.

10. Remove the meat and quickly grill the buns (the only civilized way to eat hamburger buns).

Do You Love Delivery?

Well, if you love delivery and you love Domino's then check out this campaign:

In order to make the point that it will deliver to its customers anywhere, not just to their homes, Domino's, working with Indie Amsterdam, decided to park actual doors in unexpected places like the park and the beach, to serve as actual delivery and pick-up points.

How Special K Became a Social Media Star

It has to do with the strength of the brand at the moment we started to build our programs using digital and social media. With Special K, it’s our strongest cereal brand. It has a very strong relationship with consumers…The brand enables a dialogue around women and our key consumers, which revolves around weight management. You see a lot of the dialogue in this space that uses the brand as a platform for the interaction among consumers as they give each other tips and encouragement. One of the things we discovered about women when they go through a weight-management [stage] is support and encouragement from peers is very important, and social media is a great place for consumers to do that.

No Bun, No Problem

Who are the geniuses at KFC? I'm not being sarcastic here, there are some true geniuses there. Forget that grilled chicken, I can get that anywhere. What these Einstein's have done is get rid of the middle man in a sandwich, you know the transportation mechanism for the chicken, and doubled up on my enjoyment - the fried chicken.

Behold. The Double Down.

Men everywhere are cheering. Cardiologists everywhere are expanding their waiting rooms.

The Sam Adams Beer Glass

So last night I encountered the Sam Adams Beer Glass for the first time. While I've read about it and how it's designed to enhance your Sam Adams drinking experience, I'd never used one. Honestly, I liked it. Though I'm not sure it helped the taste of the beer, it ergonomically felt right for drinking - the weight was good and the angle at which you drink, which is what the design is about, seemed better than your average glass.

Have you tried one?

Read about the glass and order one.

That Bacon Fresh Feeling

This gum goes great with mayo and tomato.

How many times were you told as a kid not to blow bubbles with your breakfast meat? "Don't blow bubbles with your bacon!" Mom would say, and "what's wrong with you? You're just like your father!" Ok, maybe the last part was just us, but still, have you ever tried to blow bubbles with bacon - it doesn't really work. It just makes a mess around the kitchen and leaves grease burns on your lips and coworkers. Sound the trumpets because Bacon Gumballs are here. Hurrah!

Failures? Really, I thought Orbitz was awesome.

Check out these Food Failures. Seems a common theme is playing around with the color of food/drinks that consumers equate with your product - ie. purple ketchup, blue french fries.

That's Not a Bag, It's Art

Check out this artist who uses bags from fast food restaurants to make art.

From Fast Company
"The brown paper bags that McDonald's hangs out along with Happy Meals and fries are an unlikely art medium, but artist Yuken Teruya has managed to turn the grease-stained vessels into beautiful, delicate paper forests."

How Do I Pop Thee? Let Me Count the Ways

How many ways do you eat a crisp? Pringles wants to know ...

The campaign, which carries the theme “Everything pops with Pringles,” includes television commercials, print advertisements, ads in stores, public relations and an extensive interactive component that involves, in addition to the brand’s Web site, presences on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and YouTube...

The campaign is emblematic of efforts being made by giant marketers to spark renewed interest in familiar brands as consumers display continued reluctance during the recession to buy much beyond household necessities.

Beer and Beatles

Following up on my last post, I'm in a beer frame of mind.

Just saw this Bud ad which includes Beatles lyrics. It's cute, but I'm beginning to wonder if the great Bud ads of past are long gone with InBev running the show.

A smaller way to avoid human contact

When pizza delivery companies started allowing people to order their pizza online, you could hear the collective sigh of the socially awkward whose were previously shaken by having to actually talk to a human to place their order.

Now, if you have an iphone - you can simply use the Pizza Hut app. Avoidance made smaller. What else can we have an app for so we can all just forget how to interact?

Countdown to Kool Aid Days

The theme this year is "Feelin' Groovy," which honors the 60s and 70s with plenty of neon and tie-dye to go around.

There will be 30 events packed into three days, including a Beatles tribute concert Saturday night at Brickyard Park.

Organizers said hits to the Kool Aid Days website are double the usual number and they're expecting about 30 thousand people to show up.

Knob Creek Bourbon Turns Shortage To Advantage

Demand has exceeded the maker's forecast since the current batch was barreled in 2000, resulting in a shortage until the next batch is released this coming November, according to the company.

Two print ads explaining the situation and asking Knob Creek fans to be patient, created by the brand's agency, Doe Anderson, appeared in The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times during July and June and are also scheduled to run in beverage trades through October.
