Fast Food, Up Close

The horrors of the fast food world have been a popular motif in popular culture for years now, but photographer Jon Feinstein sheds new light (too much light!) on the subject with his series, simply titled "Fast Food."

His up-close photos of fast-food "delicacies" might make you think twice the next time you're pulling up to the drive-thru.

On the other hand, it's not like it'll make those guilty pleasures any less tasty. Just don't look too close.

That's Not a Bag, It's Art

Check out this artist who uses bags from fast food restaurants to make art.

From Fast Company
"The brown paper bags that McDonald's hangs out along with Happy Meals and fries are an unlikely art medium, but artist Yuken Teruya has managed to turn the grease-stained vessels into beautiful, delicate paper forests."

McDonald's Rolls Out Premium Burgers

While we are on the fancy fast food topic.
The new burgers are made with a third of a pound of 100% Angus beef and a choice of fresh ingredients, and served on a toasted, bakery-style sesame seed roll. They come in three varieties: Deluxe (topped with mayonnaise, yellow mustard, a slice of tomato, lettuce, red onion rings, sliced dill pickles and American cheese slices); Bacon & Cheese (topped with ketchup, yellow mustard, red onion rings, sliced dill pickles, three bacon slices and American cheese slices); and Mushroom & Swiss (topped with mayonnaise, sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese slices).

For the record, 5 Guys is all the premium I need in my fast food burgers.

Five Guys gets fresh with burgers

Five Guys is one of the chains that has helped spawn the national trend toward fresh, higher-quality ingredients cooked to order and served in a fast-food setting. The concept is being widely copied all over the country, but this chain has honed it to a science. Its food is, indeed, vastly better than its fast-food setting suggests.

Top Chef Season 5

So, I started watching Top Chef a couple seasons ago and was hooked. Who doesn't love chef's creating whacked out food, fighting, and then being told who's good and who's bad? Well, I just saw that the next season is approaching (Nov) and that Foo Fighters (of Paul Brown Stadium Fame) will be one of the guests, along with much disliked and embroiled Martha Stewart and Rocco DiSpirito.
